Richard Morris

Department:

Education:

  • MPhys (Mathematical Physics): University of Edinburgh, UK.
  • PhD (Theoretical Physics): University of Manchester, UK.

Research Interests:

Richard's work concerns living matter.

A group leader in the EMBL-Australia programme, his team focuses on applying and developing concepts from statistical and theoretical soft-condensed matter physics, as well as applied mathematics, to describe biological systems.

Based in the Lowy Centre for Cancer Research, his group works alongside experimental partners in UNSW's centre for Single Molecule Science

Applications span a wide range of scales, from sub-cellular molecular signalling to membrane hydrodynamics & embedded proteins, endosomal transport & intra-cellular trafficking, tissue morphology & rheology and even collective animal behaviour and evolutionary game theory.

More information can be found on the group's web pages.  We are always happy to speak with prospctive honours students or PhD candidates.

The group also jointly administers a Theory of Living Systems webinar series, serving a broad range of research communities across Australia and New Zealand.

Honours, Awards and Memberships:

  • EMBL Australia Group Leader (UNSW, Australia, 2019 - present)
  • Simons Fellow (NCBS, India, 2015 - 2018)
